I would love to attend the World Conker Championships sometime. I remember spending countless happy hours building up vast collections of horse chestnuts after school and playing conkers with my brothers. The various attempts at 'doctoring' were particularly memorable. They would be varnished, put in the freezer, put up the chimney and many other things.
Horse chestnuts, of course, have other uses. We used to have a prayer meeting in our lounge some evenings. Our lounge had a big open fire and before we used to get to bed we would hide some horse chestnuts in the back of the fire, listen upstairs and laugh as we heard them explode during the meeting.
