I may not be a fan of George Bush's policies. However, I feel that the anti-Bush protests are out of place. George Bush is visiting Britain as the American head of state, not in his role as a politician. Despite the fact that it is not always easy to distinguish between an American president in his roles as politician and as head of state, we ought to give George Bush the greatest courtesy that we can extend. Bush is the embodiment of America visiting the embodiment of Britain — the Queen.
Unfortunately, the paranoia about security does not go down very well over here. Britain is not some third world state and America is supposed to be the land of the free.
